The Castle was first mentioned in documents from the year 912. The discovery of a Roman wall under the Castle confirms a much older age. The Estate has been restored from 1996 to 2001, totally renewing its infrastructure and creating 14 apartments and houses, an underground garage, as well as an exclusive swimming pool. The residences were sold to an Italian and international clientele, who use their homes for vacation purposes only.
Furthermore, a modern wine cellar and a high-level restaurant were completed in 2001.

Currently the Castle is the residence of the owner of the company. It comprises
1.580 sq.m. of living and service area, including an independent 3 bedroom guest wing,
as well as various representative function and living rooms, a large kitchen, dining hall, 4 bedrooms and 5 baths/WC. The Castle also features a most beautiful court yard and an expansive garden for exclusive use by the owners.

The Estate company owns 52 hectares of land, of which 17 hectares are vineyards, producing primarily Chianti Classico DOCG, and 5 hectares of olive groves. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 330 meters, surrounding the Castle and its hamlet, and are planted primarily with Sangiovese vines, including 8 hectares of new clones selected by the Consortium of the Chianti Classico, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vine density is 4.000 â€“ 5.000 plants per hectare using the Guyot system of trellising.

The land of the Estate is protected by the surrounding hills creating a micro-climate well-suited for the production of grapes. Soil composition is limestone, clay and sand, giving the wines their characteristic of traditional Chianti Classico.

In wine making the company uses three selections of grapes to ensure that only the best and healthy grapes go to fermentation: the so-called green harvest (July and August), when up to 50 % of the grape clusters are removed from the vine, selecting only the best grapes at time of harvest and finally the small crates,in which the grapes are harvested by hand, are emptied onto a white conveyor belt, where the wine experts of the Estate remove any unripe or over-ripe clusters.

In 2001 the company inaugurated a new, state-of-the-art wine cellar (approx. 12.000 ), installing modern, sophisticated enological equipment, allowing the wine-maker to craft wines of the highest quality. Fermentation occurs in temperature controlled stainless steel vats, equipped with computer-controlled pistons, which emerse the grape skins in the must for maximum extraction of flavour, tannins and color. The wine cellar also includes an office and a beautiful tasting room.

The grapes of various vineyards are fermented and aged separately. The wines are aged in
French oak barrels (15 and 20 hl) and French barriques (Allier, medium-toast), using gravity feeding wherever possible to avoid excessive pumping of the wines.
